The Well of Miriam was the rock that Moses struck to provide water to the people of Israel in the Wilderness. The journey to Sinai from Egypt was only three days, yet it took them forty-nine. During this period, they were drinking the waters of the well and eating the manna. This not only provided their physical nourishment, but also their spiritual nourishment. They were being transformed from slaves to priests entrusted with the Torah for the world. They were being transformed from ordinary people with the world’s usual “death consciousness” to a people capable of drawing life into themselves and the world.
Later, Rabbi Chaim Vital wrote about how he became the primary student of the Arizal–Rabbi Yitzchak Luria. They were in a boat on the Kinneret, across from the pillars of the ancient synagogue of Tiberias. The Ari dipped a cup into the water and had him drink. Afterwards, he told him that that was the water of the Well of Miriam, and from then on, he would be able to retain everything he would teach him. Again, this was subtly refining the consciousness from that of “death” to “life.”
This blog is to stipulate the consciousness of Redemption in our time on a day to day basis–first in myself and also for any who care to come along. As we take this journey together through the waters of Torah, may all of us experience higher and higher levels of consciousness, bringing us ever closer to the Giver of the Torah.
Nice Website Miriam! We’re looking forward to it expanding and growing.
Shalom,
Adam
