The Birth Parsha

Astrologers, throughout history and in modern times, would agree that time is deeply relevant to the soul’s destiny in the world.  They look at the movement of the heavenly bodies and interpret the influence for inhabitants of this earthly plane.  The rabbis have never denied the validity of this, but have said that the destiny of Israel, like that of our father Abraham, is above the stars.  However, while the rabbis warn us not to look to predictions of the future, they do acknowledge an understanding of astrological influence on one’s personality.  This can be further understood by looking at the portion of the Torah that is read for the week of one’s birth, and more specifically, on the birthday itself.

On the Torah Journey

Studying Torah is the most important thing a person can do for his relationship with Gd and for his own soul’s development.  In the Jewish world the Torah parasha and the Haphtorah is read every week by everyone.  This foundation of our learning isn’t something that is ever considered “over” when a person is ready to “graduate to higher stuff.”  No.  Every other area of Torah study is anchored in the written Torah, expounding on deeper meanings and truths.  In fact, we should understand that if something is taught that does NOT have anchor in written Torah, it should be suspect.  Read More…
