HOD ~ Splendor

Netzach and Hod are defined in light of each other.  This is similar to how our legs must work together—one leading and one following—for a person to walk or stand properly.  These sefirot also correspond to the kidneys, in that, they facilitate judgement in Heaven’s courts, filtering positive from negative.  This placement on the human body parallels the solar plexus chakra, where a person might “have a gut feeling” about something.  Interacting in triad with Yesod (whose inner soul experience is truth), they correspond with the gonads, facilitating the fertility of the flow of life force.  Moses and Aaron are the archetypes of Netzach and Hod, brothers whose love for each other made them the perfect team.

“Hod” is known as “splendor” or “glory.”  The word itself is from “hoda’ah,” which means “thanksgiving.”  Located on the left side of the array, Hod is a feminine receiver.  The idea of thankfulness can be misunderstood as passive/stoic acceptance, yet it is truly so much more—it is the decision to trust that whatever comes into our lives is from Heaven, and that it is meant for our good.   We cannot know all sides of situation that may come our way, but we can be certain that Heaven does.   Hod is the exercise of equanimity in surrender to Heaven’s judgement, giving thanks through every situation.  This was incredibly demonstrated by Aaron when his two sons—Abihu and Nadav—were killed for offering strange fire.  While his heart most certainly must have been grieving, he transcended his personal feelings and continued his role in the dedication of the Tabernacle.    With this thought, a meditation might be:

Beyond right; beyond wrong ~~ equanimity!
