Healing Well of Miriam

I once heard a meditation exercise in which the participant was to visualize himself standing apart from himself, to look at himself, his talents, his flaws, etc.  While listening to this, I thought of visualizing myself in this manner, but overlaid with the image of God.  Then I thought how for each person this vision would be completely different, for each one of us is a uniquely individual manifestation of God’s image.  At the end of this meditation exercise the participant was told to draw this image back inside himself.  How amazing!  Imagine if this could be the conscious thought each time we look into the mirror:  “I am made in the image of my Creator.”  How would we see ourselves?  Would that image be different every time we looked?

Much time is spent on the question of our purpose in life:  why am I here?—what is the meaning of life?  Getting to know how each of us very uniquely manifests the image of our Creator is the key to the answer.  To attain that understanding of who we are and what our purpose is in the world, we need to come to truly know our Creator.  This is not something that a person can really get intellectually, but rather must experience as a journey of the heart.  This journey is not out of reach of anyone, for it the very reason our soul came into the world—to work our way back to this understanding of the Light inside each one of us, to brightly manifest God’s image in this world as we were uniquely created to do. 

“I will keep him safe, for he knows My Name.  When he calls on Me I will answer Him.” –Psalm 91:14

Notice that the key is KNOWING the Name.  This is not simply an intellectual knowing, but rather, knowing it as a part of oneself.  It is coming to a deep union with the Name on a vibrational level, so that it merges with one’s own vibration.  It is becoming a vessel of Divine Presence known through that particular Name.

Throughout the Tanakh (Bible) there are various Names of God.  This is hardly arbitrary, but indeed, quite intentional.  Each Name expresses a divine attribute energetically, opening a type of gate.  This is the form of prayer, engaging this energy from Heaven.  This is also the way of coming to really KNOW God, as we meditate on His Presence expressed through each attribute.   

In this way, we can see our image in the mirror change, as we peer deeply for how we resonate with His.
